Physical health exams
Because your pet cannot vocalize his/her feelings, regular physical health examinations by your veterinarian are essential to good pet care. Regular wellness exams allow your veterinarian to evaluate your pet’s general health while monitoring for any unhealthy problems that could lead to more serious illnesses if left unaddressed.
We recommend that your pets receive an annual wellness examination. For senior pets, such examinations should occur more often. As is the case with people, pets also need to visit the veterinarian more often as they get older in order to prevent and treat illnesses that come with age.
During a wellness examination, we will ask you to provide us with a history of your pet’s health, such as any unusual behavior, coughing, increase or decrease in appetite and/or thirst, diarrhea, vomiting, or weight gain/loss. We will also ask you to provide us with information about your pet’s daily behavior, such as diet, exercise and environment.
At the beginning of a wellness examination, Dr. Attila Molnar or one of his assistants will measure your pet’s vital signs. Dr. Molnar will then examine your pet’s ears, eyes, oral cavity, listen to the heart/lungs, check reproductive organs, examine skin, and everything else that comprises a thorough head-to-toe physical examination. We will also help you to keep track of the preventative measures you should be taking such as vaccinations, flea/tick, heart worm, and intestinal parasite treatments.
Dr. Molnar may also recommend diagnostic tests, including blood tests and/or x-rays, in order to evaluate your pet’s health depending on the results of the exam. Routine blood testing, urinalysis, fecal testing, and other tests are often necessary to maintain the health of pets, especially those in their “senior years.” Dr. Molnar may recommend routine blood testing and urinalysis for younger pets to establish baseline values, which can be used for comparison as your pet ages.
We also provide post-purchase examinations to assure that your avian/exotic pet is healthy to bring into your new home, especially if there are new friends at home waiting for the introduction.
